In celebration of God & Bees turning one, the Mini Macks and I have put it in audiobook form! Earlier this year, we hunkered down in my closet, squeezed around a mic hanging between clothes, and let the games begin! We learned quickly that audio work isn’t as easy as the professionals make it look. Every whisper and mouth click, shove, and wiggle, are recorded right onto the track. Reading with storytelling flare was imperative and robot-sounding readers might’ve gotten fired until they practiced a bit more.
Mini Macks’ Science Fridays
For years the Mini Macks and I have developed our own science curriculum. The kids would come up with a science question by Thursday and by Friday morning I would have the answer, complete with hands-on activities. One of our favorites was “Why do leaves fall from trees?” Four hours of Thursday night research and college-level journals later, I had their answer.
Mother’s Day and Tangled Knots
If my mother was told the yard rake would have helped, she would have used it. Instead, she pushed the brush’s teeth into my thick tangled knots and raked. In and out, stops and starts, the hairy tangles meeting stubborn teeth of the brush’s end. I hated my hair being brushed and chose never to do it. But like most mothers, our choices affected her; and, like all great mothers, she took them in stride.
